In January 1997, status code 4 was eliminated and all Status 4 patients were grandfathered into Status 3. In July 1997, an interim redefinition was given to Status 1 and new Status codes 2A and 2B were introduced.1: Age 18 or older with acute liver failure with a life expectancy without a transplant of less than seven days; or pediatric transplant candidate less than 18 years of age in ICU due to acute or chronic liver failure, with a life expectancy without a transplant of less than seven days.
