Data Highlights Sections:

This section provides an overview of the state of solid organ transplantation in the United States for the period 1991-2000. This text calls upon an extensive set of statistics and figures based on tables from this 2001 Annual Report of the US Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) and Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR). The aspects of transplantation include: 1) organ donors and their characteristics, as well as types and counts of organs recovered; 2) counts of transplants by type of organ; 3) waiting time to transplant; 4) death rates on transplant waiting lists; 5) characteristics of organ recipients; 6) graft and patient survival; 7) a pediatric summary; and 8) donor and recipient tumor data, as well as other aspects of transplantation.

More detailed data for all these and other topics can be found in the 124 supporting Tables numbered from 1.1 to 14.10. Transplantation is the final result of a series of steps that include recovery of organs from donors, listing of candidates awaiting transplants, and successful transplantation of an organ in a recipient. Statistical summaries of several features of these steps are highlighted here.
